The Iqaluit District Education Authority are municipally community members elected to represent Iqaluit parents, students and the communityatlarge to the Nunavut Department of Education and Iqaluit schools. All meetings are open to the public and parents of students are encouraged to attend to share concerns, successes, and ideas. The IDEA is legislated to exist under the Nunavut Education Act. The IDEA has subcommittees for each Iqaluit school that work regularly with school administrations to resolve issues and highlight opportunities.The IDEA holds meetings on the first and third Mondays for every month that school is in session. The IDEA welcomes your letters, emails, phone calls, and inperson visits to the meetings.Some of the topics the IDEA has been focusing on in 201314 include: security in schools and student safety social promotion/continuous progress models of education increasing training opportunities for educators in wellness and suicide prevention learning more the new Nunavut curriculum, student assessment and accreditation school infrastructure, buildings, and classroom spaceIf you wish to raise a topic with the IDEA and/or to speak at a meeting please the IDEA Administrator, Victoria Embree at IDEA_Office@qikiqtani.edu.nu.ca.
